# Zed

To connect Flyweel MCP to **Zed**, add a `flyweel-mcp-server` entry under `context_servers` in your Zed `settings.json` with the `X-API-Key` header pointing at your `fwl_` token. Restart Zed; Flyweel’s tools show up in the assistant panel.

## Step 1: Get an API token[Link to this section](#step-1-get-an-api-token)

 1. Go to [app.flyweel.co](https://app.flyweel.co)
 1. Click **Settings** → **API & MCP**
 1. Under **Advanced: use an API key instead**, click **Generate API key** (or **Create Token** to name your own)
 1. Copy the `fwl_…` token once — it won’t be shown again

## Step 2: Open Zed settings.json[Link to this section](#step-2-open-zed-settingsjson)

`~/Library/Application Support/Zed/settings.json`

`~/.config/zed/settings.json`

`%APPDATA%\Zed\settings.json`

Or open it via `cmd+,` (macOS) / `ctrl+,` (Linux/Windows).

## Step 3: Add the Flyweel context server[Link to this section](#step-3-add-the-flyweel-context-server)

Replace `fwl_YOUR_TOKEN_HERE` with your token.

## Step 4: Reload Zed[Link to this section](#step-4-reload-zed)

Zed picks up settings changes live, but the first time you add a server you may want to reload the window (`cmd+shift+p`, then **Reload Window**).

In Zed’s agent panel, ask:

### 401 with X-API-Key[Link to this section](#401-with-x-api-key)

Key is malformed or revoked.

**Fix:** Generate a new token at [app.flyweel.co](https://app.flyweel.co), then Settings → API & MCP.

### Server does not appear in the agent panel[Link to this section](#server-does-not-appear-in-the-agent-panel)

Zed did not re-read settings.

**Fix:** `cmd+shift+p`, then **Reload Window**. Confirm `settings.json` is valid JSON with `jq . < settings.json`.
